  •  Excepting and embarking upon this challenge, Apostle. Stephen E. Young, Sr., called a meeting of family and friends at the home of his parents, Deacon K.D. and Mrs. Mable Whichard to hear what message their leader had been given from the Lord. Proudly exclaiming this ministry would house and address the needs of sinners "who have a desire to change," this declaration manifested on October 4, 1992. On this glorious day, HCMBC opened its doors for their first church service at Zelcy's Banquet Hall, thus writing the first chapter of its history. The rapid progression of this mission expanded from 35 dedicated members to over 900 active members within the first three years of existence.
  • Surpassing the expectations and goals initially proclaimed, a second service was added to accommodate all souls seeking refuge in this house of praise, and through his profound, prolific messages at the facility, PNBC Auditorium, 601 50th Street, N.E. The seventh year signaled a renewed purpose for in itself seven denotes completion and perfection.
  • On April 1, 2001, God's grace and mercy is sufficient once again anointing this vision with a permanent home, 5110 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, N.E. We are located east of the Anacostia River in historic Ward 7. HCMBC was established on the principle that the gospel of Good News should be inclusive of spiritual, social, economic and health/wellness initiatives for at-risk neighborhoods and communities. These programs of interest include, but are not limited to (1) STEP (Give Yourself A Chance) -addressing the concerns while providing confidential support/alternatives to alcohol/substance abusers; (2) Clothing Ministry-distributing quality new and used garments as needed; (3) Literacy and Tutoring (New Way Program) -providing instructional training for individuals with literacy deficiencies; (4) Peace In The Streets -anti-violence forum initiative for the streets of Ward 7 and the Washington metropolitan area; (5) HCMBC Street Ministry - disseminating the gospel while providing alternative methods of life styles; (6) Community Service Hours -implement progressive programs for rehabilitation via designated assignments; (7) HCMBC Kitchen -feeding the community through both the spiritual and physical bread of substance; and (8) Life After Homicide Ministry, Inc., a support and outreach ministry established to work with families of homicide victims and those interested in preventing homicide.
  • In a continuous effort to correct the social ills plaguing our people, revitalization plans are being structured to purchase properties that will mark the unwritten chapters of our history whose communities bear witness that His grace and mercy is truly sufficient. This is Pastor Young's vision, mission, and legacy. We are HCMBC, a church where all sinners are welcome with the desire to change.
